Why DJI Modify 1.7.0 Could Save You A Reflight

Why DJI Modify 1.7.0 Could Save You A Reflight

    • by Megan Wood

A blurred roof texture or a stray vehicle in your mesh can send a survey team straight back to site. DJI Modify 1.7.0, released on 22nd October 2026, gives you more ways to fix and finish 3D models at your desk, so here’s what it changes for your workflow.

The hidden cost of an imperfect model

Photogrammetry builds a 3D model from hundreds or thousands of overlapping photos. Glass, shadows, moving vehicles and awkward angles can all leave blurred or missing textures, and a client deliverable with obvious flaws is hard to sign off. Traditionally, the fix meant another flight, another site visit and another processing run.

DJI Modify is DJI’s 3D model editing software, built to work alongside DJI Terra. It already handles mesh repairs such as filling holes and removing floating objects, along with point cloud cleaning. Version 1.7.0 pushes further into finishing work.

Repairing textures in DJI Modify 1.7.0

For many teams, custom texture editing is the change that matters most. Select an area of the mesh and Modify automatically finds the matching undistorted source photos to rebuild it. You can also import your own images as a texture source, which helps when the original flight didn’t capture a surface clearly.

Worth knowing: this repairs what a surface looks like, not its shape. If the geometry itself is wrong, that’s still a capture or processing issue to solve.

Showing clients what could be there

Model placement lets you add components from a model library onto an existing mesh, one at a time or in batches, then export the result. For construction, planning and estates teams, that means simple visuals of proposed changes sitting on top of real, accurate site data, which is far more convincing than a sketch.

Terrain and point cloud updates for surveyors

    • DEM (digital elevation model, a 3D map of ground height) results can now be viewed in 3D inside point cloud projects.
    • LAS 1.4 point clouds now show return information, up to 15 returns. Multiple returns are how LiDAR picks out the ground beneath vegetation.
    • Mesh models can be viewed in orthographic projection, which removes perspective distortion so comparisons read more clearly.
    • Meshes can now be imported using just PLY or OBJ files.

What you need to run it

Modify edits visible-light models reconstructed in DJI Terra 4.0.0 or later, and it isn’t designed for models from third-party software. It runs on Windows with a compatible NVIDIA graphics card and uses a network licence, so you’ll need an internet connection.

    FAQs

What is new in DJI Modify 1.7.0?

The update adds custom texture editing, model placement from a component library, 3D DEM terrain viewing in point cloud projects, LAS 1.4 return information and orthographic mesh viewing.

Can DJI Modify edit models from other software?

No. It works with visible-light models reconstructed in DJI Terra 4.0.0 or later.

Does texture editing fix model geometry?

No. It corrects missing or incorrect surface textures, but problems with the shape of the mesh need fixing at the capture or processing stage.
